FAQs for Reena Bhattacharjee

  • What should people expect from your class?

    • I teach Classical Barre as well as Barre Fit. Expect a calm, friendly and positive environment, with the fundamentals of classical ballet technique infused with up-to-date and science-informed conditioning principles and teaching methods!

  • If you weren’t a ballet/barre teacher, what would you be?

My forever dream has always been to be the musical director of a TV series or film. The fact that I have no musical training beyond my ballet training doesn't hold me back (in my dreams!!!)...

  • What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

To not worry so much! Ballet is supposed to be joyous! Not a way to feel insecure or inferior, or bad about myself. This is something I want to instil in adults too...

  • What’s your favourite ballet exercise and why?

I love port de bras (arms & upper body mostly) exercises. The calm simple movements made beautiful with some lovely music and a sense of performance.

  • What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I love to travel (especially beautiful parts of the UK), cook, and generally obsess over my lovely (cheeky) little poodle puppy, Rusty.

  • What is your background?

I trained at the Royal Academy of Dance, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Ballet Education, as well as achieving further qualifications with the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing. After qualifying, I began working as a freelance performer – including dancing in the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony. I am currently on the faculty of the Junior School of ballet company Ballet Black, the Royal Academy of Dance at their HQ, and also runs my own school in London, En Pointe. My focus on physical and psychological wellbeing and science-backed approaches to training informs my gentle and encouraging teaching style, with a focus on developing robust classical technique whilst employing positive teaching methods and challenging the old-school methods and teaching styles of classical ballet!
